Server Rules

These rules exist to foster fair and engaging stories within SCN. Staff apply them with judgment, not as a rigid script, but 'I didn't know' is never a defense.

Slow-Burn Roleplay

Slow-burn roleplay means: Stories develop over time. Characters earn their successes and failures. Actions have consequences. Roleplay is valued above money, items, and wins. Everyone contributes to creating believable experiences.

    Core Community Rules

    1. Roleplay First

      Prioritize roleplay over game mechanics and personal gain. Winning an interaction should never come at the expense of good storytelling. Accept losses and setbacks as opportunities for character development.

    2. Character Progression

      Characters should start with limited resources, connections, and knowledge. Significant wealth, influence, and criminal status should be earned through long-term roleplay. Instant kingpin stories and overnight success are not supported.

    3. Value of Life (VoL)

      Treat your character's life as valuable. Avoid reckless behavior unless it aligns with your character's established personality and circumstances. Fear injury, death, imprisonment, and long-term consequences.

    4. Consequences Matter

      Actions should have lasting effects. Arrests, betrayals, injuries, and failed ventures should influence future roleplay. Avoid immediately returning to normal after major events.

    5. Character Consistency

      Maintain believable motivations and personalities. Major personality changes should occur through roleplay and experiences. Avoid changing your character solely for advantage.

    Metagaming Rules

    1. No Metagaming

      Do not use information obtained outside of roleplay, including: Streams, Discord, OOC conversations, Friend communications, Previous characters' knowledge. Information must be learned in-character.

    2. No Powergaming

      Do not force actions onto another player. Allow others opportunities to react. Use reasonable emotes and roleplay outcomes. Example: ❌ /me knocks you unconscious ✅ /me attempts to punch you in the jaw.

    3. No FailRP

      Do not perform unrealistic actions solely to gain an advantage. Avoid actions that break immersion or common sense.

    Character Rules

    1. Separate IC and OOC

      Keep personal feelings separate from character interactions. Conflict in character should not become conflict out of character.

    2. New Life Rule (NLR)

      After being fully incapacitated: Do not immediately return to the scene. Do not seek revenge using information from the previous incident. Significant injuries should be roleplayed appropriately.

    3. One Character, One Story

      Avoid using alternate characters to benefit another character. No transferring information, money, or assets between your own characters without staff approval.

    Economy & Progression

    1. Slow Economy

      Money should be difficult to earn and easy to lose. Expensive assets should represent long-term achievements. Businesses and criminal organizations should require sustained effort.

    2. Earn Your Reputation

      Reputation should be built through repeated interactions. Respect, fear, and influence cannot be demanded; they must be earned.

    3. Business Ownership

      Businesses should be actively roleplayed. Passive income and "AFK ownership" are discouraged. Owners are expected to contribute to community stories.

    Criminal Roleplay Rules

    1. Crime Requires Build-Up

      Criminal progression should be gradual. New characters should not immediately have access to serious weapons, major trafficking, or large criminal organizations.

    2. Meaningful Crime

      Crime should have: Motive, Planning, Consequences, Character development. Avoid repetitive "crime loops" solely for money. No boot checking!

    3. Respect Risk

      Criminal actions carry substantial risks. Arrests, injuries, and failures should create further roleplay opportunities.

    4. No Instant Gangs

      Gangs and organizations should develop naturally. Influence and territory must be earned through roleplay.

    Emergency Services Roleplay

    1. Professional Standards

      Police, EMS, and government employees should: Prioritize roleplay over arrests or wins. Create opportunities for stories. Act within realistic professional standards.

    2. Injuries Matter

      Roleplay injuries realistically. Major injuries should have lasting effects. EMS roleplay should be respected and not treated as a quick reset.

    3. No robbing emergency services

      Emergency services personnel should not be targeted for robbery while on duty.

    Community Conduct

    1. Respect Everyone

      Treat all players respectfully. Harassment, discrimination, and toxicity are prohibited.

    2. Collaborative Storytelling

      Help create memorable stories for others. Be willing to lose if it creates better roleplay.

    3. Quality Over Quantity

      Meaningful interactions are preferred over constant action. Slow periods and everyday roleplay are encouraged.

    Communication Rules

    1. Keep OOC Minimal

      Avoid excessive out-of-character discussion while in-game. Resolve disputes through staff channels when necessary.

    2. Stream Sniping

      Using information from streams is considered metagaming and is prohibited.

    Staff Philosophy

    1. Story Over Punishment

      Staff will prioritize education and mediation where possible. Punishments exist to protect the roleplay environment, not to win arguments.

    2. Rule of Immersion

      If an action: Breaks immersion, Damages another player's experience, or Prioritizes mechanics over storytelling, staff may intervene even if a specific written rule does not exist.
